Are You Confused About What Steps to Take to Feel More Confident in Handling Dangerous Situations … Now?


Believe it or not, you’re already dealing with danger in some way, shape, or form. Everyone leads their life:

  • confronting danger
  • actively avoiding danger
  • ignoring danger
  • being a victim to dangers, or
  • danger free.

Some potential encounters with danger are controlled by you; often you have a choice to avoid the danger or to deal with it, but not always. There also exist outside influences that can harm you, ones that that you can’t avoid, no matter which of your avoidance skills you bring into play.

Fortunately, there are good ways to lessen the chances of meanies being able to do you harm. Whether through awareness and then avoidance or escape, or self-defense techniques for dealing with violence, this site is about helping you to keep yourself and those you care about safer.

So, jump right in, but first, find the appropriate stage that best matches you and your situation:

Stage 1

Complete unawareness. Many people pass through life almost in a fog.

They are victims, and they are too unaware to realize that they are actually helping others to take advantage or harm them.

You’ve already passed beyond this stage, because you found this site. So, you are aware!

Stage 2

You have identified that you want to go here and there with a feeling of confidence and safety, AND you made it here to

This is a good stage … identification and seeking out information that can help you and the people close to you. Perfect.

But what should you actually do in Stage 2?

1) Continue exploring this website. There is a lot of Free Information, both on staying safe, and self-defense tips. (And yes, you can learn a lot about staying safe without becoming a martial artist.)

2) Sign up for the Free Super Safety Tips Newsletter. Don’t worry, I won’t SPAM you; I promise.

What I will do is give you fresh tips and links to other articles — just for subscribers to this list. (You won’t find the majority of these articles included in the main navigation of the site.)

3) Start Taking Notes — Find a way to record the useful information that you find. Choose the method that appeals to you the most:

  • Keep notes on your cell phone. (I use Use Your Handwriting so, I can write with my finger, quickly, and have several levels of “folders.”
  • Record audio notes. Whether on your phone, computer, or some other device, it’s a quick and easy way to note something quickly
  • Devote a notebook or folder to paper notes on your new tactics and techniques.
  • Create a visual mind map. Have it include the tips that you pick up here and other places.


Stage 3

I really believe that one of the best ways to internalize principles and tips is when you read or hear a good story.

Somehow, the points stick out and become more memorable.

Once you’ve read the story (or another safety parable), you should definitely have a feeling for what your next course of action should be based on your personal preferences and lifestyle.

You should continue to do research, whether you decide to practice awareness on your own, take a self-defense class, pursue a martial art, or ask me (Keith Pascal) for advice.

The suggestions in the above paragraph give you direction. And don’t forget the research part of the equation, where you read even more articles and ebooks on the subject. Keep fact finding and practicing techniques and incorporating what’s useful into your personal bag of tricks, your repertoire for staying safe and living life confidently.

People learn in different ways; some brains like to chew on a point of a story or an anecdote that they hear. Others like to see lists. Some noggins prefer specific instructions.

Stage 4

By the beginning of Stage 4, you have developed the confidence to handle safety emergencies more confidently. You’ve read both Tiptoeing Tranquility (available to the public) and The Tiptoeing Companion (only for those who have already read Tiptoeing to Tranquility).

You have done something to make sure that you are able to defend yourself against an attacker and/or feel confident that you could escape to safety, if you needed to.

In this fourth stage of safety development, I advise you to expand your self-defense influence

This comes as a two-part recommendation:

1) I want you to expand your safety bubble to include those you care about — your friends and family. Think about protecting your loved ones.

It’s time to include them in your equation. How would you defend someone accompanying you out in public? And an equally important question — what will you do to ensure their safety when you AREN’T around?


2) You should also consider expanding your self-defense and escape skills to include multiple attackers.

At this stage, instead of escaping one mugger, you have to escape three or four a-holes trying to detain you.


3) I know I said this was a two-part suggestion, but there’s actually a third, mini-stage: Combine the two previous suggestions!

How will you defend yourself AND protect someone else, WHILE four or five assailants are trying to do harm to you both at the same time?

Stage 5

Once you make it this far, you have some choices to make:

  • Are you going to move on to other interests in your life and occasionally revisit being safe?
  • Will you take your skills to an even higher level?
  • Is martial arts in your future?
